Friday Flings are my Favorite!

Friday Flings run from May 24-August 30th, 10am – 6pm

Our favorite Friday activity is back… Friday Flings! Come to downtown Palmer any Friday, May 24 – August 30th, and join in the fun!

This year’s vendors will include Krazy Kidlets, The Alaska Life, Cafe Beignet, Foxfire Emporium, Tasa’s Thai Kitchen, LuLu’s Garden and the Flipside Cafe.

Friday Flings are made up of a mixture of local artists, craftsmen, gardeners, chefs, and small businesses. Not only are they a fun tourist attraction… you’re always sure to see someone you know, and meet someone new! Support local businesses and artisans, and bring your family to the Friday Fling!

Active Soles

In the Koslosky Building in downtown Palmer is one of the most unique shoe stores in Alaska. Owned by a team of Physical Therapists and personal trainers it specializes in great shoes and exceptional customer service.

It’s called Active Soles for a reason, the owners specialize in gait analysis, computerized foot function analysis, and foot orthotics. Don’t know what that is? Neither do I…all I know is that they have fantastic customer service.

I don’t know any other shoe store that allows you to try a shoe out for 30 days to see if it will work for you with a guaranteed return policy if it doesn’t fit right.

I’m not much of a shoe person, but I found some great Keen shoes that fit my feet well and are comfortable. So I just keep going back for more of the same shoe… As I said, I’m no Imelda Marcos with a closet full of shoes. But I am a fan of this store.

I’m starting to get a good collection of different colors of the same shoe.

Check it out…here is their website. Active Soles

Thrifters Rock

I had the pleasure of checking out the newest thrift store in town, brought to you by Church on the Rock. They opened in November 2010 and the store is a big hit. Thrifters Rock is staffed by volunteers that are paid with store credit! If you are interested in volunteering, please call 745-ROCK to set up your shift.

They are located next to Valley Harvest Church at:
10823 East Palmer-Wasilla Highway
Palmer, AK, 99645

Hours Of Operation
Mon through Fri: 10am – 5pm
Sat: 11am – 3pm

You can find a wide selection in clothes, shoes, toys, games, movies, books, small appliances and more. The decor is very nice with freshly painted walls and well maintained. This thrift store is very clean and tidy; I appreciated the fact that each section has its own area which is clearly marked.

Thrifters Rock accepts donations only during business hours. You may bring most unwanted items that carry some value and/or are in working order. Large appliances like refrigerators, mattresses or fueled appliances are also accepted.

Thrifters Rock also has an active facebook page where you can find the deals of the day!

Church on the Rock Palmer meets in Sherrod Elementary school at 11am on Sundays. The store is their community project to raise funds for a Palmer church building. Once the goal is met and building location secured, all future proceeds will go to community projects! This business really wants to give back to the community!
