CashMob – Third Thursdays March 18th, 2013

Categories: Around Palmer, Events

It’s likely that you’ve seen our posts on our Facebook Page about Cash Mob. But what in the world is a Cash Mob?!? Let me tell you about it.

The Palmer Cash Mob is a monthly event with the following slogan: Buy Local, Meet Locals, Eat, Drink and BE Local! Every third Thursday of the month, 6:00pm – 8:30ish, locals will gather at a “pre-mob” gathering place. This gathering place is announced on the Palmer Cash Mob Facebook page. Mobbers are encourage to grab a bite to eat and/or drink, and introduce themselves to other locals. Here the “Host Business” (the business being mobbed) will be announced.

The Cash Mob will then head to the “Host Business” where each Mobber spends a minimum of $20. Buy gifts for friends or family… or just pamper yourself!

Rules for a Host Business:
1. The business must be locally owned.
2. The business must have products for both men and women and be large enough to hold the Mob.
3. The business owner must give back to the community in some way.
4. The business owner must approve the CashMob before the mob is announced.

Cash Mobbers are encouraged join in a social gathering after the mob.

Mobbers: At the Mob, there are three rules:
1. Spend $20
2. Meet two people you didn’t know before
3. HAVE FUN!

Winter in Palmer – 2012 December 17th, 2012

Categories: Around Palmer, Seasons

I love winter in Palmer… even at -15&#176.
Every little shop is playing Christmas music, the street lamps are decked with bell and star lights and even the Train Depot has Christmas lights around the perimeter.

Local businesses have great holiday deals and people are excited for Christmas vacation. My college friends are back in town and families are reuniting.

We finally have snow! After no snow all the way into December… we wondered if there would be a white Christmas at all! But the first couple weeks of December finally gave up a minimum of 8 inches. It looks much better than heavy frost on the trees.

Children are trying out the fresh sledding hills in Hatcher Pass and friends are playing weekly broom ball on Kepler Lake. Despite sub-zero temps, everyone is out and about in a hurry to finish holiday shopping and get home to families.

Merry Christmas, Palmer!
