Tuesday through Saturday 11:00 am-9:00 pm
I had the pleasure of finally eating at Rusty’s in Palmer right off Dahlia Street. I had a sample of the jalapeno cheese appetizer and for lunch I had fish and chips made with wonderful halibut! They have a great menu ranging from pizza to prime rib. Obviously, the desserts are incredible, and I ate more peanut butter pie than anyone should be allowed to eat!
There are separate menus for lunch and dinner times so you should definitely try both. Lunch is served from 11 to 5pm and dinner from 5-9pm Tuesday through Saturday.
There is an option for outdoor dining on the charming back patio. The summer months will make this a great place to hold parties, large dinners and events. In addition to the wonderful food and atmosphere, they host local artists’ work on the walls. Come view the beautiful paintings currently hanging.
Stop by Rusty’s Facebook Page for updates about events coming up! They have some great things in store for the future.
Star Dust Designz May 16th, 2011
I would like to introduce a local glass artist: Audra Reger. Audra was born and raised in Palmer and specializes in hand-painted glassware. Her love of art and a good glass of wine birthed the idea for her craft.
StarDust Designz offers beautifully hand-painted stemware, glassware and porcelain sets. Each piece can be personalized for a special someone or occasion to suit your needs. All of Audra’s work is done with non-toxic, European, thermo-hardening enamel paints. Each glass is unique as they are all designed and meticulously hand -ainted by the artist.
Custom designs are Audra’s specialty, but you can purchase gorgeous ready-made pieces at NonEssentials. “I enjoy designing and creating custom pieces,” says the artist. Every order can be completely customized with text, color, pattern, glass type, no extra charge. Just e-mail Audra with your custom order.
She does offer discounts on large quantity purchases. This would be a great custom gift for weddings, or bridal showers! We are excited to see art thriving locally and hope you enjoy it too!

E-Commerce: Local Man Helps Boost Economies May 14th, 2011
Joseph Davis is a local leader in using the internet to encourage local sustainable economics. He has traveled to Afghanistan, Malawi and Kenya and many other places to teach local people how the internet can help their communities thrive. His work has taken him to more than 30 Alaskan villages to help Alaska Natives utilize the internet to sell their art.
One of Davis’ many overseas projects involved installing an internet system in an orphanage in Africa. The orphanage started a profitable internet cafe. This has proven very successful and helps the orphanage be self sufficient.
Lately, Davis keeps busy leading e-commerce workshops in Alaskan villages. He has traveled to more than 30 villages and worked with more than 60 helping them set up eBay stores and eCommerce websites. Now they can sell their art and other handmade items to help sustain life in the bush. He provides continuing support for a month after the visit to help the community get everything up and running. La Fiesta Mexican Restaurant May 4th, 2011
Palmer, AK 99645

By Amber Grissom
I recently dined at La Fiesta Mexican Restaurant in downtown Palmer. It was a pleasant experience and the food satisfied my need for authentic Mexican cuisine. Good lighting, hand painted walls, Mexican art and decor create a marvelous atmosphere. The staff was accommodating and very pleasant. While I was there, all the other diners that arrived were nice little families or couples. It made me thankful to be in a small town with great people!
I ordered Carne Asada and the meat was tender and just spicy enough. I was tempted to eat so much more because their extensive menu has everything from nachos to flan! You can choose from breakfast selections, enchiladas, tostadas, quesadillas, fajitas, chili verde, chimmichangas, camarones, imported and domestic beers. The dessert menu includes authentic Mexican flan, fried ice cream, sopapillas, and cheesecake burritos. There is also a sizable kids menu with burgers and other more familiar choices.
One thing I really appreciated was how fast the food was served! There was, at most, a 15 minute wait for delicious food! They also do catering for larger groups! Just order ahead and pick up your fresh Mexican cuisine for your event! I hope you visit this restaurant soon and enjoy their food with family or friends!
