MTA Events Center January 29th, 2016

Are you looking for a great place to exercise? The MTA Events Center would be an excellent choice. Whether you like to skate or just want to walk around somewhere that isn’t cold the MTA Events Center is great.

Located on 1317 S Kerry Weiland Ct in Palmer the center has a full size hockey rink and as I mentioned before you can walk around the edge of the the rink for free! Here is their schedule, and here are the different programs and fees.

Open skate is on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and cost only $5. There might even be a couple of pickup hockey games in the near future so check out the schedule!

Hatcher Pass has snow!! January 26th, 2016

I know that it is hard to believe but Hatcher Pass does have snow, quite a bit actually. There is plenty for snowmachining and more then enough for snowboarding or skiing. Sledding is also a option and there are plenty of spots to sled.

Groomed trails make traveling easy and fun. If you want, you can even stop by the Hatcher Pass Lodge and grab a bite to eat.

Snowmachiners should check out this website for information about where they can and can’t go. Unfortunately there is some avalanche danger so be cautious about those steep slopes!

Whether you are a snowmachiner, skier, a hiker, or snowboarder Hatcher Pass is a great place to spend the day.

Maud Road Shooting Range January 19th, 2016

Has anyone been up to the new Maud Road shooting range? Thinking back I remember when the “range” used to be a big ugly clearing. HConstruction sure did an excellent job on building it.

One of the things that is really cool about this range is that it is completely free. No fee for shooting here! There are actually two separate ranges, one 25yd handgun range, and one 100yd rifle range. Both have benches and garbage cans. So grab your gun/guns, get out to mile 2.6 of Maud Road extension and have a “blast”.

The snowless field across from the Palmer Airport.

Palmer has been having some odd “winter” weather lately! Temperatures well into the high 40s mimic weather patterns from down south. Has anyone had to mow their lawns yet? Even though its the middle of January we have almost no snow! Unfortunately, this has been Palmer’s weather pattern for the last three years.

However, because the temperature is USUALLY below freezing, the lakes around Palmer have been frozen for a few months. Combined with the lack of snow, this has made skating excellent. Take advantage of this odd “winter” weather, grab a pair of skates, head for the nearest lake, and have some fun.
